Valentine’s day is just around the corner. Are you ready? More importantly is your bedroom ready? Does your bedroom make you feel cozy, calm and sexy? If you’re a busy working parent, the answer is probably a big fat NO. No big deal, here are a few simple tips to get your bedroom ready for a little romance.
Make Your Bed
This one little task, which takes less than two minutes will set the tone for the rest of your day. The appearance of your bedroom affects your mood. It’s hard to feel calm, relaxed, and grounded when you are surrounded by disorganization. A properly made bed instantly makes the entire room look pulled together, creating a subtle vibe of tranquility. There’s just something about a well-made bed that feels better at the end of a long day.
Clear The Clutter
Your bedroom is where you begin and end each day, so it’s crucial to keep it tidy. No one wants to spend time in a space that is cluttered and messy. Having too much “stuff” detracts from the flow of a serene environment, and doesn’t contribute to the romantic feel you’re trying to accomplish.
Calm Color Palette
Color is vital when creating a romantic bedroom. Stay away from bold colors like red, deep greens or yellows. Instead use soft whites, cool grays, lavender, pink, pale blues, and soothing beiges. Cool hues are known to reduce stress and anxiety and help promote relaxation.
Go ahead and invest in the nicest sheets you can afford. You won’t be sorry. Add plush pillows, dreamy duvets, and cozy throw blankets to help create a bed that is irresistible. Make sure you layer different textures, prints, and soft colors so that the overall effect will be that of a soft and welcoming bed.
Lighting is another crucial element in setting the mood of your bedroom. Harsh overhead lighting is never very flattering. Instead, opt for a soft glow throughout your room using dimmers. Layer your lighting with pendants, recessed cans, and table lamps so that you have full control over how much or how little light you want. You can also opt to put pink light bulbs in your fixtures which will give you a rosy glow.
Your sense of smell can play a vast part in how romantic you’re feeling. Our sense of smell is the most powerful of all our senses. Candles will bring a primal and sensual feel to the bedroom, and flowers will bring a little touch of nature. Just be sure to place your candles in an area where they can’t catch anything on fire. Also, opt for a candle that isn’t heavily scented. A little will go along way.
Less is always more. Accessories should complement your bedroom not clutter it. Make sure you place electronics and any other work-related or kid-related items out of sight or out of the bedroom altogether.
