bunk-up buttercup: 19 bunk beds that will make you want to have a sleep over!
Growing up, I was incredibly jealous of my brother’s bunk beds, which was silly because I had a set of twin beds myself. There is just something fun and exciting about bunk beds.
Whenever I see bunk beds, they remind me of fun sleepover parties, camp cabins, and vacationing with extended family and friends. As a kid, I found them to be magical; as an adult, I have a love-hate relationship with them.
They are handy in small bedrooms, where you need or want more than one bed. They are great if you have children that are sharing a bedroom. If you arrange more than one set in a room, you can increase the sleeping capacity tremendously.
However, it can be a challenge (and that's putting it mildly) to change the sheets on a bunk bed. The last time I did this, a few expletives came out!
If you want your bunk beds to stand the test of time and work for both kids and adults, it's imperative to have an easy way to get in and out of the top bunk. That means either a sturdy ladder or a set of stairs. No jumping and hopping allowed! I also like to have a railing of some sort. You don't have to have one, but I tend to toss a lot when I sleep, and nothing is worse than feeling like you are going to fall out of bed, or rolling out of bed which I have done.
