inspiration of the week
here it is…
I love this guest bedroom by Alexa Hampton in her NY apartment. She is one of my all-time favorite designers. Many years ago I was lucky enough to hear her talk at the Richmond Academy of Medicine Alliance Foundation, Antiques & Fine Arts Show. (that’s a mouthful!)
It was an inspirational and informative talk. I found Alexa to be incredibly funny and extremely likable. She is someone I would love to follow around the office for a week and then have a few glasses of wine with at the end of the day.
both masculine & feminine
This bedroom is an excellent example of how to mix masculine and feminine design elements into one space. The room is simple but in no way boring. The blue and white color scheme appeals to both men and women. However, I love how she incorporated black and gold accents into the space and kept the fabrics limited and simple with just the two colors of blue and white. The Architectural Digest article doesn’t mention the wall color, only that it is a Benjamin Moore color. I think the color may be Kensington blue (830), but it’s always hard to tell from a photo.
interesting but not overwhelming
If you look closely at the picture, the artwork is more masculine, with perspective drawings of, I’m assuming, past design projects, black and white architecture photos and what looks like Italian intaglios. If you want to learn more about intaglios, check out this blog post by Toma Clark Haines the founder and CEO The Antiques Diva® & Co.
If you have the time check the rest of Alexa’s magnificent apartment here. Enjoy!
