Try and guess as to when this room was designed? Maybe a year ago, maybe five, maybe 150? It’s hard to tell, isn’t it! This fantastic home in Millbrook, NY designed by architect Gil Schafer in 2006, was owned and decorated by Miles Redd. He intended for the space to feel timeless; not too trendy, not too modern, and not too old.

A few of the pictures are from the November 2010 issue of Elle Decor, and a few are from the MLS listing in 2013 when Miles sold the home. I decided to include them both because there are a few subtle but interesting differences in the pictures. As a whole, I think it gives you a better appreciation of the space.

At first glance you may be overwhelmed by this room but let me break it down a bit as too why I love it.

  • First, the room has two conversation areas because it’s so long and narrow.

  • I love the bright, bold silk peacock blue draperies against the soft pale green walls.

  • I like how the space has one big Persian area rug that helps to anchor the furniture rather than a group of rugs or even one sizeable neutral style rug.

  • Last but not least the olive green velvet sofas look incredibly comfortable and durable.

There are so many other little details in this room that I could go on and on. Take some time to study the pictures and think about how this living room makes you feel. Enjoy, and I hope you have a great week!
